The Earth Day Fair is hosted every year in April by the student club Organization of Aggie Students Inspiring Sustainability (OASIS). The event is free and is held on NMSU main campus on the Horseshoe, the lawn west of Hadley Hall off of Espina Street. Earth Day is organized each year to encourage a greater understanding of contemporary environmental issues. OASIS says it wants to increase communication between NMSU and the entire Las Cruces community to promote healthy, clean and safe activities focused on environmental issues.
The celebration includes live bands, entertainers, environmentally-focused educational booths, vendors and children’s activities, along with arts and science activities.
OASIS has hosted Earth Day festivals since 2008, as well as Arbor Day tree plantings at public schools, a public garden at City of Las Cruces Gomez Park, and a sustainability film series during the fall semester. The club’s mission is to “inspire a balance between environmental, social and economic viability within the community.”
