Workforce Solutions Borderplex, the Far West Adult Education Consortium, and El Paso Community College are launching a program that will jump-start individuals who have been out of school and/or been looking for new career with a $1,000 scholarship for a professional certification.
Led by the Far West Education Consortium, the Community College has developed accelerated curriculums for individuals who want to get back into school. Qualifying participants can pursue in-demand careers as:
· Office Assistants
· EMT’s
· Fire Technicians
· HVAC Specialists
· Automotive Technicians
· Truck Drivers
· Security Personnel
“This is an opportunity for individuals who didn’t finish school or who have been out of school for a while and are in need of certain marketable skills to be more competitive in the workforce,” said Joyce Wilson, Workforce Solutions Borderplex CEO.
Nationally, over 5 million young people between the ages of 16 to 24 are both out of school and out of work, which is a statistic with dire economic and social consequences.
“EPCC maintains strong partnerships throughout the El Paso region and we work with our partners on educating our population at all levels. This partnership allows our regional entities to continue the important efforts to educate our adult learners and to provide meaningful opportunities to further their education and marketplace skills” said Steve Smith, Vice President of Instruction and Workforce Education at EPCC. “By focusing on key skills and job pathways, the successful students can expect to increase their marketability towards good paying, living wage jobs.”
Spaces are limited and the deadline to enroll is July 11 through August 15, 2016.
Interested participants must:
• Be a U.S. citizen and a Texas resident
• Be eligible to work in the U.S.
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Meet the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) Assessment Criteria
• Attend the Center for College Access and Development Support Courses
• Agree to Sign a Scholarship Agreement
