Holloman Air Force Base is partnering with El Paso Electric to build a solar facility.
The new 5 megawatt facility will be dedicated to the base and is estimated to cost $13 million to construct. Groundbreaking is planned for December and the facility is expected to be fully operational by 2017.
The planned solar project will be the first El Paso Electric solar facility that will serve only Holloman. The facility is expected to generate enough energy to power 1,800 homes.
