El Paso – About 90 people were displaced from their homes after a canal leak possibly caused by gophers led to an El Paso neighborhood being flooded.
Emergency units responded to the 7000 block of Ramos Street on Saturday after an 8-by-3 breach in the Franklin Canal wall that threatened about 30 homes. Authorities reported 2 feet of floodwater in the area. The Red Cross was on the scene to aid residents.
Officials said they did not know when people would be able to return to their houses.
Brenda Ochoa told the El Paso Times her family tried to stop the water from coming into their home but "lost everything and the water has covered my bedroom, damaging all of our things."
