El Paso – A pair of embattled state judges in El Paso have been indicted on new state charges of bribery and abuse of power.
Suspended District Judge Regina Arditti already faced a misdemeanor nepotism charge, and Manuel Barraza had been convicted earlier this year on federal bribery charges. Both were indicted Monday on state charges of bribery and abuse of power.
The indictments accuse the pair of misconduct for each agreeing to hire the other's relative to work in their respective courts. Both were initially charged in the nepotism case, but the case against Barraza was dismissed after he sentenced to five years in federal prison for bribery.
Both have previously denied any wrongdoing.
