El Paso Receives Federal Grant For New Buses

By KRWG News

El Paso – Today, Congressman Silvestre Reyes (D-TX) announced that the Department of Transportation (DOT) will award the City of El Paso a $1.5 million federal grant for approximately a dozen new Sun Metro paratransit buses. The grant has been provided for Sun Metro's handicap transit service.

"These funds will provide Sun Metro with new, reliable, and environmentally friendly buses to improve services for El Paso residents," said Congressman Reyes. "I am proud that federal resources have played an important role in helping Sun Metro improve the quality of life of El Pasoans."

Since 2005, Sun Metro has received over $125 million in federal funding to improve services, including $15 million from the American Recovery Act to construct the Glory Road Sun Metro Transit Terminal and the Westside Transit Terminal, and 200 bus shelters. Congressman Reyes has also secured more than $14 million in congressional appropriations projects for new Sun Metro buses since he was first elected to Congress.
