El Paso VA Working To Correct Problems

The Veterans Affairs health clinic in El Paso is taking steps to cut down wait times and resolve other problems found in an audit ahead of a plan to resolve issues found nationwide.

El Paso VA director John Mendoza, outlined the steps he will take locally to help reduce wait times for appointments and contact veterans still waiting to see a doctor.

A national audit of Department of Veteran Affairs clinics has found that more than 64,000 veterans nationwide have been unable to get a doctor's appointment.

Several Texas facilities have long wait times. The El Paso center was fourth-worst nationally for mental health care specialists. Veterans are waiting an average of 60 days for an appointment.
