ENMU Reporting Record Student Enrollment In 2011

By KRWG News

Portales,. New Mexico – ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) Eastern New Mexico University says its enrollment has jumped 9.7 percent, setting another enrollment record.

The Portales News-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/mSaj21) that the Portales school saw 5,574 students enroll for the fall semester. That's more than last year's previous record of 5,080 students.

The previous record for ENMU before that was 4,685 students set in the 2009 fall semester.

Student credit hours, which higher education institutions funding is based on, increased by six percent.

The news comes after New Mexico State University officials reported last week that student enrollment was down at its campuses across the state, declining nearly 20 percent at one campus. The campus system says it saw a 1.2 percent drop in enrollment from the all-time high recorded last fall.
