Escapee From State Prison In Los Lunas Is Caught

Los Lunas, New Mexico – LOS LUNAS, N.M. (KRWG) Authorities say an inmate who escaped from the state prison in Los Lunas has been captured by correctional officers.

KOB-TV says 54-year-old David Mansfield was found at a Los Lunas business about 5 p.m. Sunday and taken into custody.

State police say they received a tip about Mansfield crossing Interstate 25 near a car dealership. They say he was found hiding inside an unlocked vehicle.

Mansfield fled from the facility around 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

How he escaped from prison still is unclear. But state police believed Mansfield might be headed toward Iowa or Michigan because he has family in that area.

Authorities say Mansfield has been serving a four-year sentence since January at the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility for embezzlement and theft of a motor vehicle in Albuquerque.
