Events at Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site

  September 3rd | 11 Am | Family Cave Exploration | 5 groups of 10
This event will take families through some of the tight cracks and dark crevasses of Hueco Tanks.  It is not recommended for anyone who has issues with tight enclosures.  These tours will involve some scrambling, hiking, and basic climbing.  Reservations are required.  Families may reserve no more than 6 spots. September 10th | 8 Am | Women’s Only Hike | Max group of 25 | Recurring event: Every 2nd Saturday of the month.

This event is for women who are not normally comfortable with the outdoors.  Join Ranger Kendra Moore as she discusses some of the common mistakes people make when first starting to hike, and experience some of the beauty of the Chihuahuan Red Sands Desert in the early morning. September 11th | 8 Am | Yoga Tour | Max Group of 10 | Recurring event: Every 2nd Sunday of the month.
Join Blue Lizard Climbing’s Yoga instructor Beth M. as she leads a relaxing hike through some of the gorgeous scenery of the Hueco Tanks Mountains.  Be prepared to be introduced to some of the coolest yoga locations that you have yet to visit! September 17th | 7:30 Am | Birding Tour | Max group of 25 | Recurring event: Every 3rd Saturday of the month.

Richarch Hermosillo, one of the leading amateur ornithologists of our region, takes a band of early morning birders out to try and check some “lifers” off of their lists.  Binoculars, water, snacks, and sunscreen are recommended for this tour. September 30th | 6 Pm | Hueco Tanks Stargazing | Max group of 100
Join Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site staff on an awesome night of stargazing, stories, and planetary viewing.  Visitors are welcome to bring their own binoculars and telescopes, but not required. This event will be on a first come, first serve basis.  So be sure to arrive early to the park!

Directions to the Park:

To get there: Take Montana Avenue (U.S. Highway 62-180) all the way into the Hueco Mountains then turn left on Ranch Road 2775 (where the UFO building is).

There is an annual orientation program for visitors. Bicycles permitted only on designated paved areas. Pets allowed only in the campground and picnicking areas, not on the trails.

August:

25th – Stargazing event. No reservations required. First come, first serve. Start time is 10 Pm. Check in is 9-10.  Gates shut promptly at 9 with no late admission.

27th – Children’s Survival Day. 9  Am Start time. 8 – 9 Check in time. No reservations needed.  First come, first serve.  There will be multiple stations set up in the park for families to try out their desert survival skills. End time is Noon.

October:

8th – Women’s Hike.

8th – Rare Plant Hike.

9th – Yoga Tour. 

13th – Interpretive Fair Media Day. Media staff are invited to the park to shoot some footage and help advertise the Interpretive Fair. Start time 9 Am.

13th – Full Moon Boulder Tours.  3 bouldering tours in the park at night. Start time is 7 Pm.  Check in is 6 pm.  Reservations required.  Only allowed to reserve 2 spots at a time. 10 people per tour.

20th – Pups on Parade Turkey Trot.  Teaming up with the El Paso Humane Society visitors will be invited to help walk rescue dogs along the Hueco Tanks roads. Start time 10 Am.

24th – Stargazing event. No reservations required. First come, first serve. Start time is 7 Pm. Check in is 6-7.  Gates shut promptly at 7 with no late admission.

27th – Turkey Trot Hikes. 4 hikes of varying difficulty to help burn off some of Thanksgiving Dinner. Check in is11:30 Am – 12:30. Start time is 12:30.

December:

9th – Women’s Hike.

11th – Yoga Tour. 

17th – Birding Tour.

22nd – Stargazing event. No reservations required. First come, first serve. Start time is 7 Pm. Check in is 6-7.  Gates shut promptly at 7 with no late admission.

29th – Hot Chocolate and Storytelling around the Fire. No reservations required. First come, first serve. Start time is 6 Pm. Check in is 5-6.  Gates shut promptly at 6 with no late admission.

*** Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site’s 23rd Annual Interpretive Fair! – October 15th and 16th ***

On the third weekend of every October, Hueco Tanks SP&HS lifts its max capacity limit and admission fees and hosts a two-day event focused on celebrating the rich history and cultures of our region!  The event goes from 8 Am to 10 Pm Saturday, and 8 Am to 6 Pm Sunday.  There will be special hikes, tours, guest speakers, and native American dancers and presenters, as well as booths, activities, and merchants.  So come on out and have a fun time this weekend!

Hours for the park: 8 Am to 6 Pm Monday –Thursday | 7 Am – 7 Pm Friday – Sunday

Admission: $7 for ages 13+ | Free for 12 and Under
Additional Activity Fees for Events (such as tours): $2 ages 5+

Check in for Activities: One half-hour prior to activity start time

Rock Art Tours and Rock Climbing Tours also go out every day except Mondays and Tuesdays, but only by prior reservation.
Bring at least one bottle of water and good hiking shoes.  Pets not recommended.
