Ex-Business Owner In Deming Gets Prison In Embezzlement Case

DEMING, N.M. (AP) — The former owner of an escrow services business in Deming has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for embezzling more than $800,000 from 12 Luna County residents.

Prosecutors say 48-year-old Anna Delgado also was ordered to pay nearly $660,000 in restitution to her victims.

Delgado formerly owned Mimbres Valley Escrow Services.

A complaint was filed against the business in 2012 with the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department's financial institutions division.

Authorities say Delgado's company was placed into receivership following the discovery of unsafe activity and violations of the Escrow Company Act.

The case was then referred to the tax fraud investigations division of the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department for investigation.
