Ex-Texas Driver's License Worker Took Bribes, Gets 18 Months

A former Texas Department of Public Safety worker must serve 18 months in prison for accepting bribes to help people in the U.S. illegally get a driver's license.

Jose A. Ytuarte was sentenced Thursday by a federal judge in San Antonio. Ytuarte in March pleaded guilty to use of an interstate facility in aid of unlawful activity — bribery.

Prosecutors say Ytuarte, who worked at the DPS office in Hondo, accepted cash for putting false information into the computer system about ineligible drivers. The time frame was May 2013 to mid-2015.

Investigators say a co-defendant awaits trial on conspiracy and bribery-related counts for allegedly charging each immigrant up to $5,000 to help get a license.
