Las Cruces – Investigators from the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department and the
Fire and Emergency Service Department met Thursday with staff in the Third Judicial District Attorney's Office to review progress into the criminal investigation of an Oct. 23, 2008, home explosion east of Las Cruces. Investigators continue seeking to determine the exact cause of the blast, and the case remains active and open pending the ongoing investigation. In addition to the destroyed house, a motor coach valued at $350,000 was destroyed in the explosion and fire. The motor coach had been parked on one side of the residence. No injuries were reported when the massive explosion occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, in the Miner's Ridge subdivision of the Talavera area east of Las Cruces. The house was a residence that was listed for sale, but the residents were out of town at the time of the explosion. The 4,419-square-foot house was located on a 1.62-acre lot and was valued by the Dona Ana County Assessor's Office at approximately $725,000.
