Faculty Recital Tuesday At NMSU

New Mexico State University will present a violin and piano recital featuring faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences Department of Music at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at Atkinson Recital Hall.

The concert will include performances from music department faculty Laura Spitzer, Daniel Vega-Albela and Jorge Martinez-Rios.

“Playing with Daniel is great musical fun,” Spitzer said. “He’s a terrific chamber musician, and in rehearsals, the music seems to play itself. The Mozart and Franck pieces are two gold nuggets from the violin repertory, with very meaty and rewarding parts for the pianist.”

The event will open with a performance of Mozart’s violin and piano sonata in B flat, K. 454, followed by Mexican composer Manuel M. Ponce’s Sonata a Dúo for violin and viola. The closing piece will be Cesar Franck’s violin sonata in A.

“Doing a second collaboration with Laura has been an absolute pleasure,” Vega-Albela said. “She is one of the finest chamber musicians I’ve had the opportunity to work with. Musical ideas seem to flow very easily when we play together. I’m very excited to be playing two of the most beloved works for violin and piano, particularly because they have not been performed at NMSU in recent history.”

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Vega-Albela at 575-646-5432 or lcsq1@nmsu.edu.
