Family Of 20 Seeks Asylum In El Paso

Twenty members of a family of Mexican businessmen and politicians are seeking asylum in the United States after two were recently murdered in their small northern Mexican town.  El Paso lawyer Carlos Spector is their attorney. He says he expects asylum will be granted because the family has supported an opposing political party for years in their hometown of Villa Ahumada, about 80 miles south of El Paso.

They fled after unknown gunmen killed Rodolfo Porras on June 17. His son, Jaime, was fatally shot two days later while visiting his father's grave.

Rodolfo's brother, Hector, says they were targeted by extortionists linked to the ruling local political party. He says Rodolfo was killed when they reported the threats.
