Family Of Slain New Mexico Residents Plan Funeral

ESPANOLA, N.M. (AP) — The family of three New Mexico residents who were killed last week in a shooting spree has begun planning a funeral.

KOAT-TV reports public visitation for the three family members: Max Trujillo Sr., Benda Gallegos and Brendan Herrera will be on Wednesday in Espanola.

Twenty-one-year-old Damian Herrera is accused of fatally shooting his stepfather, Trujillo Sr., and brother, Brendan Herrera, before turning the gun on his mother, Gallegos.

Authorities say Damian Herrera, who has since been arrested, then traveled 200 miles (322 kilometers) across New Mexico and fatally shot two more people before he was arrested.

His sister and others were at the family home when the shootings began.

Court documents state he had made troubling statements to family members in the past about his intentions to kill or hurt people for fun.
