Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra meets with La Semilla Food Center Donor Relations and Communications Manager, Elena Acosta. Many of our communities that do not have access to healthy foods have high levels of childhood poverty and high rates of diabetes compared to the national average. So La Semilla decided to bring fresh foods to families that are living in underserved areas with the “Farm Fresh Mobile Farmer's Market,” a retrofitted bus that sells fresh local produce, eggs and meats.
Acosta announced that La Semilla Food Center was recently awarded a three year $825,000 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to help the organization achieve its mission of "fostering a socially equitable and economically viable regional food system" in our communities.
