Fast Action Leads To Robbery Arrest In Las Cruces

A man suspected of stealing beer from a convenience store and punching a clerk as he fled was arrested by a Las Cruces Police officer who happened to be driving by at the time the crime was committed.

Bobby W. Borland, 26, of the 2300 block of Dr. King Way, is charged with one count of robbery, a third-degree felony.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday, May 24, a Las Cruces Police officer on patrol spotted a man running from the Pic Quik convenience store at 210 E. Union Ave. At the same time, a clerk from the store waved down the officer and told him that someone had just committed a robbery there and punched another clerk while fleeing the business.

The officer chased the man, later identified as Borland, toward the Las Brisas Mobile Home Park. The officer gave Borland several commands to stop but the suspect refused to do so. The officer soon caught up with Borland in the backyard of one of the residences and took him into custody.

The Pic Quik store clerk positively identified Borland by the distinctive “LA” tattoo the suspect has on his right cheek.

Borland is being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.
