Fatal Crash In Las Cruces

A two-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Lohman Avenue has claimed the life of an 84-year-old woman.

At around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the report of a crash on the 2001 block of east Lohman Avenue. The 84-year-old driver of one of the vehicles was critically injured in the crash. She was rushed to MountainView Regional Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Las Cruces Police traffic investigators learned that the woman was driving a 1996 gray Toyota Avalon. Her vehicle appeared to be exiting the Arroyo Plaza parking lot and turning east onto Lohman when it was struck broadside by a red Nissan Altima.

The 30-year-old woman driving the Altima was not seriously injured.

No citations have been issued. Westbound traffic on Lohman Avenue, from Walnut Street to Del Monte Street, was temporarily closed while traffic investigators gathered evidence and mapped the scene.
