Las Cruces – Authorities say one teenager is dead and four others are recovering from injuries suffered when the vehicle they were in rolled numerous times east of Las Cruces.
Investigators with the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department believe alcohol was involved.
The crash happened before dawn Sunday when the driver lost control of the sport utility vehicle and it rolled at least three times before coming to rest on its roof.
Authorities say 16-year-old passenger Robert de Herrera was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and the three other passengers received minor injuries.
Sheriff's investigator Bo Nevarez says interviews with the other teens revealed that the boys had been drinking, and that alcohol contributed to the crash.
