The father of an infant who died from what doctors say were non-accidental injuries has been accused of child abuse.
The Albuquerque Journal reports 25-year-old Spenser Phillips was charged Wednesday with child abuse in connection with the death of his 2-month-old son.
On May 30, the baby was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital in critical condition with a brain bleed.
According to a criminal complaint, a doctor told police the baby had suffered abusive head trauma and non-accidental injuries.
The child's mother told police Phillips had been caring for the child that day.
In an interview, Phillips told police the child had fallen out of his chair and hit his head.
The child died days later.
Phillips has been booked into the county jail on $50,000 bail.
