Favorable Weather Eyed To Fight Fire Near Silver City

A 2,700-acre fire near Silver City in the Gila National Forest is continuing to rage but officials say favorable weather conditions are coming.

Firefighters on Monday are expected to face more favorable conditions with winds around 10 mph.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Forest Service says homes around Signal Peak have been evacuated. Forest spokeswoman Punky Moore did not know how many people were affected.

Highway 15 also was ordered closed from Ben Lilly Monument north to the Gravel Pit near Wildhorse Mesa.

A Type 2 team is scheduled to join the fight Monday, which brings additional people to help when the fire's complexity and potential to grow exceeds the capabilities of local units.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
