Fears That Immigrants Are Not Getting Needed Help

New Mexico Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham says she fears detained immigrant women and children aren't getting required legal representation and proper health care.

The Albuquerque Democrat told The Associated Press on Friday she also wants migrant girls as young as 9-years-old to be given pregnancy tests since many girls are reportedly being raped on their way to the United States.

Lujan Grisham this week visited a temporary detention facility in Artesia and met with advocates along the U.S.-Mexico border to discuss the humanitarian crisis due to a surge of Central American migrants.

The congressman said she was impressed how security personnel were protecting the privacy of the immigrants suspected of entering the country illegally.

But Lujan Grisham said she was troubled by the tone of recent anti-immigrant protests nationwide.
