Federal Agents Rescue Immigrant Lost In Desert

Border Patrol agents rescued a man who got lost in the southwestern New Mexico desert after crossing the border illegally from Mexico.

The Border Patrol says the rescue was performed Wednesday after Luna County authorities received a 911 call from the man, who said he was lost, in distress and needed help.

Agents used his cell-phone signal to identify a search area, and Customs and Border Protection helicopters then were sent to search for the man.

According to the Border Patrol, the man told agents who rescued him that he'd crossed the border illegally a day earlier and realized on Wednesday while walking in the desert that he was lost.

The Border Patrol says the man's call for help may have saved his life.
