Federal Disaster Funds For New Mexico

By KRWG News

New Mexico – New Mexico Congressman Harry Teague says federal disaster assistance is on its way to help parts of the state damaged by recent storms.

State officials say two weeks of violent monsoons caused infrastructural and property damage in McKinley, Cibola, Socorro, Mora and San Juan counties.

The destruction caused by the heavy rain, hail and flooding was assessed on federal, state and local levels. The surveys identified damage to roads, bridges, buildings, water control facilities and drainage canals.

Teague says he has toured the impacted communities in Cibola County and the Pueblo of Laguna and urged President Barack Obama to authorize federal emergency assistance.

The Democratic congressman says funds are forthcoming and work to fix the structural damage will be done as quickly as possible.
