Federal Stimulus Funds Buy Two New Las Cruces Buses

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – The City of Las Cruces RoadRUNNER Transit has received two new ADA compliant vehicles. The low-floor mini buses were purchased for $146, 418 each from using American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) funds.

Each vehicle is able to hold up to 13 passengers and two passengers in a wheelchair. The low floor model allows persons in a wheelchair the ability to enter the vehicle with a ramp from a curb, rather than using a lift.

"We're happy to be able to add more vehicles to our fleet that will allow us to serve those with physical disabilities. It's important that we provide accessible public transportation to all residents of our city, especially those who need it most," says Michael Bartholomew, Transit Administrator.

The vehicles are actually similar to the size of the current Dial-a-Ride vans already in place. However, these vehicles will be used for both Dial-a-Ride and regular fixed routes. They also have destination signs, bike racks, chime systems and a farebox.
