Financial Literacy Fair Coming To Las Cruces

Las Cruces – Students will learn how to budget and save their way through college from community finance professionals next week.

Dona Ana Community College (DACC) will hold their third annual Financial Literacy Fair on April 12 from 10 am to 2 pm on the East Mesa campus in the DASR building commons area.

Finances are the second most given reason why students drop out of community college and do not finish their certificate or degree in a timely manner. To help address this, public and private financial professionals at the Fair will provide students with recommendations and resources they can use to help guide themselves through the difficult college financial landscape.

Students will learn about:

·       Budgeting and saving

·       Identity Theft and what can be done to make it more difficult for others to steal your identity

·       The proper use of credit reports and how they can help students

·       Credit scores and their meanings

·       Responsible use of credit cards

·       Student financial aid including how to apply for scholarships

·       Investments and how one can actually grow their investments over the course of college

·       How to avoid gambling debt

Representatives from 12 different agencies will provide advice and counseling to students and staff including: Chaney and Marin Financial Planning, DACC Financial Aid, First Light Federal Credit Union, Morgan Stanley, New Mexico Educational Assistance Foundation, NMSU Career Services, NMSU Financial Aid, One Source Federal Credit Union, Sam’s Club, The Casino at Sunland Park Race Track, U.S. Bank, Washington Federal, and Wells Fargo.
