Fire Damages Three Las Cruces Homes

The Las Cruces Fire Department extinguished an early morning fire that damaged three mobile homes.

Firefighters were dispatched just after 2 a.m. Thursday morning to a mobile home fire in the 2800 block of West Picacho Avenue. The first arriving engine crew found two mobile homes involved with fire and smoke. Firefighters began aggressively attacking the fire and evacuated neighboring homes. A second alarm was requested from the Battalion Chief due to the amount of fire and homes involved. The fire was able to advance to a third home and several vehicles due to the proximity of each home and winds before being brought under control. No firefighters or civilians were injured in the fire. One dog perished and several cats were able to escape.

The fire caused significant damage to a storage shed and several vehicles. Total estimated damage is around $40,000. The fire is suspicious in nature and is still under investigation.

Nine apparatus with thirty personnel from the Las Cruces Fire Department responded along with assistance from Las Cruces Police Department and American Medical Services. Red Cross was contacted to assist those displaced from the fire.
