Fire Under Investigation At Former Las Cruces Country Club

Las Cruces firefighters extinguished a fire in the former clubhouse of the Las Cruces Country Club Friday night.

The fire department responded to the call on the 2700 block of N. Main St. shortly after 11:00 pm Friday and found heavy fire and smoke conditions in the structure.  Firefighting efforts were initially hampered by plywood panels that had been secured over all the doors and windows of the unoccupied building.  The fire was brought under control within one hour.

The fire department had been dispatched to the same location earlier on Friday evening for what was discovered to be a small brush fire near the structure.  That fire was completely extinguished and it has not been determined if the two incidents are related.  The building suffered heavy fire and smoke damage throughout.

The dollar amount of the damage has not been determined.  The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.  No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
