Firefighter Injured In Las Cruces Blaze

Las Cruces – A Las Cruces Fire Fighter was injured while working a house fire Wednesday.

The Las Cruces Fire Department was called to the 700 block of Suzanne Street a little after 5:00 pm Wednesday. The first arriving crew encountered heavy smoke coming from the roof. The fire was brought under control in approximately 25 minutes.

One fire fighter suffered a non-life threatening injury when he partially fell though the roof. The firefighter was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. One cat was rescued from the home and survived.

The fire caused a significant amount of damage to the residence. The dollar value of the loss has not been determined. The origin and exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Twenty-seven personnel from Las Cruces Fire Department responded with four engines a ladder truck and a battalion chief. Las Cruces Police Department and AMR assisted with traffic control and medical stand-by. Dona Ana, Fairacres, Mesilla and NMSU Fire Departments assisted by responding to calls in the city.
