First-Grader Suffers Skull Fracture In School Bus Fight

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – A first-grade boy underwent surgery for a skull fracture after an apparent fight with another boy on a school bus in Las Cruces.

Las Cruces Public Schools spokeswoman Jo Galvan says the first- and second-grade boys were riding home April 14 when there was an apparent shoving match and one boy hit his head.

An attorney for the boy's family says the boy went home after talking to the bus driver. Joseph Holmes says the boy's parents took him to a hospital after he became sick. The boy was later transferred to a hospital in El Paso, Texas.

Holmes says doctors believe the boy won't have any long-term problems, but it could be six months before he can engage in normal activities.

The boys were not identified.
