First On KRWG: Las Cruces Police Arrest Man In Bomb Threat

Las Cruces Police arrested a man believed to be responsible for Monday’s bomb threat at a south Valley Drive convenience store.

Kevin M. Green, 51, who is believed to be homeless, is charged with one count of intentionally delivering a facsimile or hoax bomb. The charge is a fourth-degree felony.

At around 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the report of a possible explosive device at the Murphy’s convenience store at 1290 south Valley Drive. A store employee told the 911 calltaker that a man wearing black was believed to be responsible for taking the device inside the store and was now sitting down outside of Murphy’s.

Officers located the man, later identified as Green, and took him into custody without incident.

The Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was called to the scene and learned that the device was a clear vial containing some type of liquid. Bomb Squad personnel determined it was not an explosive.

The store was evacuated and closed for more than an hour.

Investigators learned that Green took the vial into the store and indicated to an employee that it was an explosive device. He then exited the store and sat down outside, where he was located by police.

Green was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is initially being held without bond.
