Gov. Susana Martinez is ordering that flags be flown at half-staff on Thursday to honor a Sandoval County sheriff's sergeant who died after being struck by a vehicle during a snow storm.
Thursday is the day when family, friends and law enforcement officers will gather at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho for a memorial service to honor Sgt. Robert Baron.
Martinez's executive order directs that flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sundown on Thursday.
Baron died a day after he was struck Dec. 5 while directing traffic along Interstate 25 near San Felipe Pueblo.
The 47-year-old Baron had been with the sheriff's department for seven years. He is survived by his wife and 10-year-old son.
