Former Albuquerque Officer Cleared In Wife's Killing Faces Civil Suit

A philandering former Albuquerque police officer was acquitted of killing his wife, but his legal troubles aren't over.

Levi Chavez still faces a wrongful death lawsuit from the family of his late wife — a case that likely will include testimony about an alleged motive and his wife's fear of him that was prohibited at the criminal trial.

Brad Hall, an attorney representing the estate of Tera Chavez, said her family is evaluating all options on the case that had been put on holding pending the outcome of the criminal trial.

Defense attorney David Serna says he likely won't represent Levi Chavez is the civil case.

Chavez did not answer reporters' questions about the civil trial after Tuesday's verdict.
