Former CNN Journalist Chuck de Caro Recovering at University of New Mexico Hospital

Former CNN journalist Chuck de Caro is recovering at the University of New Mexico Hospital after suffering multiple gunshot wounds in an attempted robbery and subsequent shootout in his Albuquerque motel room more than a week ago. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, de Caro was transported to UNM Hospital, New Mexico’s only Level 1 Trauma Center.

Working from his hospital bed, de Caro is actively managing an exercise this weekend in California called “SOFTWAR,” to which he was en route when deciding to stop overnight in Albuquerque with his wife and former CNN anchor Lynne Russell. de Caro has coauthored several textbooks on Information Operations and Cybernetic-Warfare. SOFTWAR is defined as the notion or idea of hostile use of global visual media to shape another society’s will by changing its view of reality, or information warfare.

“I never thought I’d be running a 1st JSU(V) war game from a hospital bed after having been shot three times,” de Caro says. “But I’m feeling better and looking forward to a full recovery, and getting back to the business of advancing the information warfare capabilities of our country. I’m grateful for the advanced care from incredibly skilled physicians and staff at UNM Hospital, whose spirit and dedication are enabling me to do just that.”

de Caro plans  to be released from UNM Hospital next week. de Caro’s ideas on SOFTWAR can be viewed at:
