A newly unsealed indictment charges a former Bernalillo County jail detention officer with a drug crime.
Lucas Segura of Los Luna appeared in federal court in Albuquerque Thursday on a heroin trafficking charge.
At the time of the alleged offense on April 1, the 22-year-old worked at Metropolitan Detention Center.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for New Mexico says Segura also faces related state charges alleging drug trafficking.
The defense lawyer appointed to represent Segura in the federal case did not immediately return a call for comment on his client's behalf on Friday.
