Tularosa, New Mexico – ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRWG) A former Tularosa Middle School math teacher has been sentenced to five years in prison for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student.
Forty-year-old William P. McKinsey actually received a 15-year sentence, but 10 years was suspended.
The Alamogordo Daily News reports McKinsey resigned from his teaching and a high school coaching position shortly after he was questioned about the relationship. He also must surrender his teaching credentials.
McKinsey was charged in a grand jury indictment with 20 counts of fourth-degree felony criminal sexual penetration by a teacher.
Ten counts of his charges were dismissed in a plea agreement with the state.
McKinsey will serve one year of parole and five years of probation after serving prison time.
