Las Cruces – A Las Cruces Police officer was in the right place at the right time to hear a burglar alarm and begin an investigation that resulted in four arrests.
Ray D. Rapchak, 18, Coty Jimenez, 17, and 16-year-olds Randy Dean Malone Jr. and Dominique Jordan were arrested early Friday morning after an investigation revealed the four took part in a burglary at a south Solano Drive business.
All four are charged with non-residential burglary and conspiracy. Rapchak and Jordan also face charges of auto burglary.
At around 2:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, a Las Cruces Police officer was on patrol when he heard an audible burglar alarm coming from K & B Audio at 1335 S. Solano Dr. The officer then noticed someone, later identified as Jordan, climbing out a window of the business. Jordan led the officer on a brief foot pursuit before being detained.
Responding officers found Malone and Jimenez leaving the scene in a white Pontiac Grand Prix. The vehicle, driven by Jimenez, was stopped as it headed northbound on Solano.
Another LCPD officer and his canine located Rapchak attempting to hide in a trash dumpster a short distance away on Foster Road. Rapchak was taken into custody and later charged.
Rapchak was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $15,000. Jimenez, Malone and Jordan were charged as juveniles and then released to their parents.
