Free history event brings Christmas in New Mexico to life

LAS CRUCES -- The New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum’s annual December living history event offers visitors a retrospective view of New Mexico history during the Christmas season.

“Stories of Holidays Past: Preparing for Christmas in New Mexico,” is 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8 in the Museum’s Theater. Admission is free.

The audience will enjoy several different holiday vignettes in the Museum’s theater with characters from various time periods in our state’s history.

Some of the time travel stops include: Buffalo Bill Cody visiting the St. James Hotel in Cimarron, bringing Christmas gifts to the hotel’s famous chef, Henri Lambert, and his family; Harvey Girls training and preparing for the Christmas rush at a Harvey Hotel; a stage stop along the Butterfield Trail just before Christmas; and more.
