Free Presentation in Las Cruces Discusses Alzheimer’s Disease

“Conversations about Dementia” is the title of  a FREE presentation offered by The Alzheimer’s Association, New Mexico Chapter on Friday, December 11th, 12pm-1pm, at the Alzheimer’s Association’s Southwestern NM Regional Office, 125 N. Main Street, Las Cruces, NM 88001.  To register or for more information, contact Maia Sideris-Dorame, (575) 647-3868, msiderisdorame@alz.org

This presentation is designed primarily as general forum for non-professional or family caregivers who are seeking a basic knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and an overview of support resources that are available in their area; so that they might better understand how to care for their loved-one or care-recipient.  It provides valuable information on the disease process and different stages of Alzheimer’s.  It helps caregivers and family members differentiate dementia from normal age-related memory changes by introducing the warning signs and known risk factors.

The class will also give the caregiver information about the core programs provided by the New Mexico chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, descriptions of the other educational classes that it provides statewide, all free of charge.

Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S., and the fifth-leading cause of death for those ages 65 and older. In New Mexico, more than 339 will die with Alzheimer’s in 2016.  For more information contact Maia Sideris-Dorame, (575) 647-3868msiderisdorame@alz.org

The need for education, information and supportive services for families living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in diverse communities is paramount. The Alzheimer’s Association, New Mexico Chapter has an expansive portfolio of tools, information and culturally and linguistically appropriate resources in Spanish and English for families affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias at every stage of the disease.
