Fugitive Arrested After Seven Month Search

A fugitive from justice since January, a Vado man wanted on drug charges – who was released by a judge at arraignment because of a paperwork issue – was arrested by members of the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team Wednesday night.

On Dec. 30, 2012, 22-year-old Victor Manuel Carreon led Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase through the county and the city limits of Las Cruces after deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

He was arrested near Doña Ana County Magistrate Court and charged with aggravated fleeing and resisting arrest.

Upon arraignment, the judge released Carreon because certain court documents were misplaced at Magistrate Court and were not in his case file.

A criminal complaint was re-filed and a warrant was issued for Carreon’s arrest on charges of aggravated fleeing from a law enforcement officer, a fourth-degree felony, and trafficking by possession with intent to distribute, a second-degree felony.

Sheriff’s deputies with the Special Response Team located Carreon Wednesday night in the 1300 block of State Line Road. He was taken into custody and transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center where he is being held on a $10,000 secured bond.
