Doña Ana County Sheriff’s investigators say a man who fled from an Otero County courtroom early last month was arrested at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday in Commerce City, Colorado.
Abraham Andres Piedra, 32, was out on bail when he showed up for court on Feb. 7 in Alamogordo, facing three counts of bringing narcotics into a jail and three counts of possession of narcotics. During a break in the trial, Piedra left the courthouse and did not return once court was back in session. He was later found guilty in absentia and a nationwide warrant was issued for his arrest.
Doña Ana County was working with Otero County law enforcement and the Alamogordo District Attorney’s office because Piedra has an ex-wife and children in the area that might have been in danger.
According to the District Attorney’s office, Piedra was convicted on three separate occasions for being a felon in possession of a firearm and currently has seven previous felony convictions.
