Roosevelt County, New Mexico – PORTALES, N.M. (KRWG) Efforts to raise money for a Roosevelt County war memorial are under way. The Portales News-Tribune reports about $20,000 is needed to build a 3 1/2 foot tall, 15 foot long war memorial on the southeast corner of the Portales Town Square. It will list the names of Roosevelt County veterans killed in action.
Some Roosevelt County residents say they hope the memorial will bring knowledge and history to the county's younger generation about the role local residents played in times of war.
