Tonight the Boston Red Sox take on the Saint Louis Cardinals at Fenway Park in Game 1 of the World Series.
Cardinals fans have adopted the 1985 Glenn Frey hit “The Heat is On” as their own. Here & Now takes a quick listen to a much-loved remix of the song, made especially to honor the Cardinals back in the 1980s.
JEREMY HOBSON, HOST:
So, Robin, college costs still going up, and I'm sure so are the prices for tickets of tonight's game...
ROBIN YOUNG, HOST:
HOBSON: ...between the Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals. The World Series, of course, starts tonight. And it is no secret, Robin, that you are a Boston Red Sox fan.
YOUNG: What? Can you tell? Does it show? What?
HOBSON: Well, I actually got a tweet about this from the head of St. Louis Public Radio, Tim Eby, who said: I hope Jeremy Hobson remembers his Midwestern roots and show some STL Cards love as Robin does for the Red Sox.
YOUNG: Well, you are not from St. Louis.
HOBSON: I am not from St. Louis. I am from Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, which is a - home to no Major League sports team...
YOUNG: Thanks for reminding them.
HOBSON: ...and actually a place that - right, exactly - sort of splits its allegiances between a few teams. But for you, Tim Eby, I will give you this song. Boston may have "Sweet Caroline," but this song belongs to St. Louis.
(SOUNDBITE OF "THE HEAT IS ON - CARDINALS REMIX")
HOBSON: A remix of Glenn Frey's "The Heat is On," for all you Cardinals fans.
YOUNG: And, by the way, Tim, you know, with a little persuasion, say, baked goods...
YOUNG: ...I could be swayed.
HOBSON: Or maybe some toasted ravioli.
YOUNG: There you go. St. Louis is on.
HOBSON: Send them our way. You're listening to HERE AND NOW. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
