Paul E. Garcia, 29, has announced that he will seek the seat to the Las Cruces School Board.  Garcia says he is a published children’s author and is employed with the United States Border Patrol.

“I want to bring new passion and energy to the school board, “Garcia said, “It is time for younger generations to step up to the plate and take a more active role in our communities.  I plan to do just that.”

Garcia says he will focus on being a strong voice for teachers and support staff.  He also says he sees the importance of a healthy relationship with the business community.  He says the board and community should put special attention on improving the educational experience and results in lower achieving schools.

“I will make it a priority to be highly visible and have an open-door policy,” Garcia said, “and I will make myself available to anyone who is willing to have a discussion regarding our public education.  Technology has changed the job spectrum.  Our children are now competing on a global level for employment opportunities.  It is our duty to prepare them for the challenges out there.  Let’s think big!”

Garcia says he spent two years as a substitute teacher and special education aide with the Clint Independent School District.  He is married to Melissa Garcia, Human Resources Director for The Children’s Garden, and has two children.
