German Contingent to Attend Las Cruces City Council Meeting

Students from Las Cruces’ Sister City in Nienburg, Germany began a two week visit to Las Cruces on Sept. 20. During their stay, the students from the Albert Schweizer-Schule in Nienburg, Principal Dr. Ralf Weghoft, and teacher Thomas Volkhausen will attend classes at Arrowhead Park High School, and visit White Sands National Monument, City of Rocks and Faywood Hot Springs.

On Oct. 3, Mayor Ken Miyagishima and the City Council will recognize the German contingent at the council meeting that begins at 1 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, 700 N. Church St.

The students’ families paid for their airfare and the students are home hosted while here. After departing Las Cruces, the group will spend a week in Washington, D.C. before returning home.

Meanwhile, City Councillor Gill Sorg, District 5, recently returned from a trip to Nienburg. Sorg visited the city Aug. 29 and 30 as part of a personal trip he took to Europe. Pictured with Sorg are Thomas Gatter, retired Nieinburg city official, Nienburg City Councilor Hedda Friese, Sorg’s son Andrew, Conny Kramer, president of Friends of Las Cruces in Nienburg, and Nienburg Mayor Henning Onkes.
