You are invited to visit Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument and all of your national parks free of charge in celebration of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, September 28, 2013! Cooler weather is here, monsoon rains have cleared and area rivers are gradually receding. The interagency Gila Visitor Center reopened on Friday, September 20 and is open from 8 am until 4:30 pm MDT every day. In recognition of this fee-free day, Western National Parks Association will offer a 15% same-day discount on all products at the Park Store.
Entrance to the Gila Cliff Dwellings is permitted daily from 9 am until 4 pm MDT. While the last entry is at 4 pm, visitors have until 5 pm to complete their visit. Volunteer staff is available all day in the cliff dwellings to answer questions. A guided tour of the cliff dwellings is offered daily at 11 am. Those planning to attend the guided tour should begin hiking up from the trailhead contact station no later than 10:30 am. Visitors may also take the self-guided tour by obtaining a free copy of the Cliff Dweller Canyon Companion trail guide available at the trailhead.
Visitors should dress for the weather, carry water, and wear shoes or boots suitable for rugged trail walking. For more information, please contact the Gila Visitor Center at (575) 536-9461 or visit our website at www.nps.gov/gicl.
