Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument Announces Guided Tour

Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument announced today that Interpretive Park Rangers will offer 45-minute guided tours of the cliff dwellings at 1:00 pm on weekends. Each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, visitors can meet a ranger at the dwellings to explore and discover the fascinating history of this special place that was home to the Mogollon people almost 800 years ago. Tours by requested on other days and at other times, but are dependent on staff availability.

Visitors are reminded that the program begins at the cliff dwellings. Be sure to plan for driving times of at least 1-1/4 hours from Silver City, NM to the Monument. Give yourself enough time to hike the half mile from the trail head to the dwellings in order to be on time for the 1:00 pm start.

Wear sturdy shoes or boots, sunscreen and a hat. Bring plenty of water. The one mile trail is moderately strenuous with a 185 foot elevation gain up a slope to reach the dwellings, and then a half-mile downhill to return to the parking area.
