Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra meets with Executive Director of Casa de Peregrinos (Emergency Food Program), Lorenzo Alba Jr. to talk about the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive.
Last year, a partnership with Casa de Peregrinos, La Casa Domestic Violence Shelter and El Caldito Soup Kitchen provided 1,300 turkeys with all the fixings to several underprivileged families in our community. Alba says they are partnering again, with a goal this year of providing 1,500 turkeys and fixings. They need donations of frozen turkeys, and several food items such as: boxes of stuffing; cans of corn; cans of yams; cans of green beans; and cream of mushroom soup; but NO potatoes, they already have that provided.
They need a lot of volunteer support on Friday, November 17th, Saturday, November 18th, and Monday, November 20th to put together the boxes of food for families to cook their Thanksgiving meals at home. If you would like to help, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Food and monetary donations are being collected through Monday, November 20th at Casa de Peregrinos located in the Community of Hope at 999 W. Amador Avenue in Las Cruces.
