Gov.-Elect Picks May For State Budget Job

SANTA FE, N.M. – Martinez announced Friday that May will be her nominee to run the budget agency. May currently is a manager of government relations at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque.

May, 56, worked in Washington, D.C. for 25 years. He served as the GOP staff director for the U.S. House of Representatives Budget Committee in 1993-1997.

Martinez takes office Jan. 1, and faces tough decisions on dealing with a budget shortfall that's projected to be as much as $450 million next year.

May has worked at Sandia since March 2009. His appointment is subject to confirmation by the state Senate
